Spanwijdte 24-27 mm. Gelijkt op X. ferrugata: 'The most reliable way to separate this species from Red Twin-spot Carpet is to look closely at the whitish line on the inner edge of the dark central band. In this species it shows a distinct 'notch'. However, it also tends to be darker and less 'red'.' (Ukmoths) Er is een discussie op Phegea forum
over dit verschil. Het exemplaar op mijn foto is enerzijds duidelijk rood, wat pleit voor de courantere X. spadicearia, maar anderzijds blijkt er toch een soort inkeping (aangegeven op foto 3) te zijn. Het blijft dus afwachten of we nog andere exemplaren kunnen vinden, BH.
